- What is Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge™
Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge™ is a turn-key solution for bolted on hinged entry into every access cover with a mating flange.
It is an innovative, proprietary, patented, safe, cost effective hinged solution allowing for easy opening and closing of access covers on HVAC Chillers, Condensers, Manways, Heat Exchanger Channels, Storage Tanks, Blind Flanges and more.
- Does installation require welding to the cover or mating flange?
No. The Bolt-On Hinge™ is attached while the access cover is fixed to the flange by using the existing bolt holes in the cover and the mating flange. Please, view this installation demo to see how easy it is to install and use.
- How long does it take to install?
On average, the initial installation takes a qualified installer approximately four to eight hours depending on the size and location of the access cover. The Bolt-On Hinge™ is attached while the access cover is fixed to the flange using the existing bolt holes in the cover and the mating flange. Once installed, one individual can safely and quickly open the access cover in about 15 minutes.
- Do I have to modify my cover or flange to accommodate a Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge™?
No modification to either the cover or flange is required with the exception of tapping a few of the existing bolt holes. Our Bolt-On Hinge™ System includes everything you need to easily and safely install it.
- Is it necessary to recertify pressure vessels if I use a Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge™?
No. When the Bolt-On Hinge™ is installed, there is no welding required, only a few bolt holes are tapped, therefore you DO NOT have to recertify pressure vessels.
- How will this product us save time and money?
The Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge™ is installed while the access cover is attached to the flange. This mean NO Rigging, NO lay down area, and REDUCED down time. The Bolt-On Hinge™ ALWAYS FULLY SUPPORTS the access cover, allowing you to easily, safely and efficiently open and close it just as you would a door.
- You mention that the product is safe. Why is it safer than other methods of opening a cover?
Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge ™ is the safest solution for gaining entry into your access covers.
It DOES NOT require that the access cover be completely removed from its mating flange and laid down in order to open and close it.
Other methods of opening access covers require it to be completely removed from its mating flange, lowered to a dedicated location, and typically laid down flat. During this process the access cover is free to swing possibly striking an individual, or it might come into contact with a worker’s misplaced toe or foot, or it might even fall if not properly secured while being lowered or raised. With the Bolt-On Hinge™ your access cover is always attached to its mating flange, fully supported and will never swing uncontrollably or fall.
Under OSHA law, employers have a responsibility to provide a safe workplace. Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge™ was created with this in mind. We help you to reduce the liability typically associated with removing an access cover.
- Can I use the Bolt-On Hinge™ to open a cover either to the right or to the left?
Yes, every Bolt-On Hinge™ is precisely measured, engineered and manufactured to the specifications of your specific equipment. The hinge is designed specifically for either left or right hand installation and can also be designed for other orientations as well.
- Is the Bolt-On Hinge™ removed after every use?
That is entirely up to you. Our Bolt-On Hinge™ is bolted on, never welded eliminating the need for re-certification. The Bolt-On Hinge™ System includes everything you need to allow the hinge to remain in place on your equipment. However, if you prefer, the hinge may be removed and stored for future use.
- I have a cover that seems to be beyond the weight limits of your site?
Yes, our Bolt-On Hinge™ can be manufactured to accommodate capabilities beyond the limits of 10,000 LBS. We will be happy to provide you with a quotation for your specific application needs.
- I'm very interested in your product but I'm required to obtain multiple bids for approval. Where can I obtain other quotes for the product?
The Universal Hinge Bolt-On Hinge™ is an innovative, and patented product. It is a one source proprietary product and can only be purchased directly from the Universal Hinge Corp® and our authorized agents. We can provide documentation that we are the sole supplier.
- I have a rectangular cover on my vessel. Do you offer a Bolt-On Hinge™ suitable for a rectangular cover?
Yes. Round, square, oval, rectangle, domed, or any combination access covers that is bolted to a mating flange, we have a Bolt-On Hinge™ that is a perfect fit. We will be happy to provide you with a quotation for your specific application needs.
