Safety

The Universal HingeTMbrand Bolt-on Hinge is installed while the cover is fixed to its mating flange. Once the hinge is installed and it fully supports the cover, only then are all the cover studs or bolts completely removed, freeing the cover to open. Since the cover is always attached to the mating flange, either by the cover studs/bolts or the hinge, the cover is fully supported, thus eliminating the potential of falling and injuring personnel. The Universal HingeTMbrand Bolt-on Hinge allows mechanics to SAFELY open and close covers for maintenance or inspection of equipment, exchanger tubes, or for any other needs.

Bolt On

The product is easily bolted on to the equipment cover and mating flange and can be installed by one individual in minutes. Since the existing bolt holes in the cover and flange are utilized, welding is eliminated and certification of the vessel is not impacted.

Rigging is Eliminated

In the past, in order to clean exchanger tubes, inspect the inside of pressure vessels or simply gain access to the interior of various pieces of equipment, it was necessary to completely remove manways, access covers or heat exchanger covers and bonnets. Removal required rigging, chain falls, straps, cables, and a myriad of other devices connected to the cover. Before the cover could be removed it was necessary to find a place to fix the rigging or chain fall. Often this would be a section of building structure or pipe rack or whatever was deemed suitable to support the weight of the cover. In the past, there might have been no suitable place to fix the rigging and cranes or other devices were employed instead to lift and lower the cover.

Once the cover was rigged, it was necessary to remove it, lower it and lay it down in some location, thereby taking up floor space. During all of this effort, the cover was free to move, sway and possibly fall.

The Universal HingeTMbrand Bolt-on Hinge eliminates all this unnecessary effort, time, expense, and potential danger to personnel. There is no rigging. The cover is never free to fall because it is always supported. The cover simply opens and closes just as one would open and close a door.
